2nd Regional Steering Committee Meeting - 19th January 2021

The second Regional Steering Committee (RSC) meeting for the GMES & Africa Action on Marine and Coastal Management in the East Africa region took place on the 19th January 2021 at the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC) Headquarters in Ebène, Mauritius. The meeting was conducted through video conference and was chaired by Mrs Gina Bonne, Chargée de mission at the IOC.

The objectives of this 2nd Regional Steering Committee meeting were to provide the status on the implementation of the project and to assess the progress at national level on earth observation policy with emphasis on access to and use of earth observation technology.

During the opening session, remarks were given by Mr V. Marimoutou - Secretary-General of IOC, Mr M. Balloo - Representative of European Union, Dr D. Marie - Officer in Charge of the MOI and Dr T. Ouattara - AUC GMES & Africa Project Coordinator. The virtual meeting saw the participation of National Focal Points (NFP) from Kenya, La Réunion, Madagascar, Mauritius, Somalia and Tanzania. Observers from AUC, IOC and the Mauritius Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade were in attendance.
