|Associate Professor and Chairman of the Mauritius Oceanography Institute|
Prem Saddul has spent some 25 years in the field of Tertiary Education and Research. During his long career, he was Director of the Mauritius Institute of Education, holder of UNESCO Chair for Higher Education in Mauritius, Officer in Charge of the Private Secondary Schools Authority, Consultant to UNESCO/ UNEP in Environmental Education, Adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Consultant on slope dynamics at the Road Development Authority, Senior Technical Advisor to the Ministry of Education and Chairman of the Central Water Authority.
As an Earth Scientist, Mr. Saddul has carried out intensive research in the geological evolution and morphology of volcanic Islands. His main research publication “Mauritius: A Geomorphological Analysis”, which traces the geological evolution of Mauritius, was published after more than seven years of intensive field work in Mauritius and Rodrigues. He was subsequently awarded Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society of Great Britain. He has also carried out research in lava flow dynamics and evolution of coastal landforms in Réunion Island, Hawaii, Canary Islands of Lanzarote, Tenerife, North Carolina (U.S.A) and Jeju Island of South Korea.
As a Senior Fulbright Scholar, Prem Saddul was attached to the Department of Environmental Science of the University of Virginia, USA as Research Scholar and Visiting Professor to continue his geological and geomorphological research of volcanic islands. He was also visiting Professor at the National Jeju University of South Korea. In 1998, he joined the C.N.R.S (Centre National de la Récherche Scientifique) team in Bordeaux working with French scholars on the geomorphology and coastal zone vulnerability and sensitivity of tropical islands and for the publication of a professional Atlas of the Republic of Mauritius.
As Chairman, he has set up as mission to help the Institute, which is the technical arm of the Ministry of Ocean Economy, Marine Resources, Fisheries and Shipping, in maximizing opportunities for fundamental and applied research. There is a need to broaden the space for sustainable networking at local, regional and international level and look beyond the horizon so as to make of the MOI a Centre of Excellence for the South West Indian Ocean.
|Dr. Ruby MOOTHIEN PILLAY|
|BSc, MSc [Marine Ecology and Fisheries Biology], Ph.D. [Fisheries Science]|
Dr. Kamla Ruby Moothien Pillay holds a Doctorate degree in Fisheries Science from Kitasato University (Japan); a Master’s degree in Marine ecology and Fisheries Biology from James Cook University (Australia), a Post graduate diploma in Science from James Cook University (Australia) and a Bachelor’s degree in Zoology from the University of Madras (India). She started her marine research career in the early 1990s at the Ministry of Fisheries. She joined the Mauritius Oceanography Institute in 2001. Her pre and post-doctoral experience stem from participation in several local, regional and international projects in coral taxonomy, coral reef ecology, phylogenetics, phylogeography and population genetics. Dr. Moothien Pillay has been appointed as the Director of the Mauritius Oceanography Institute since 1st July 2016.
Dr. Daniel MARIE, BSc (Joint Hons.)[Chemistry & Environmental Studies], PhD & Post Doc.[Chemistry]
Dr. Marie joined the MOI in November 2000 as Project Officer in Chemical Oceanography. He was formerly a scholar of the Tertiary Education Commission for his post graduate studies. In 1998, he won an Association of Commonwealth Universities scholarship which brought him to the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland, for one year where he finalized his Ph.D. on the Chemistry of Natural Products. He was awarded a Ph.D. in 2001. In 2002, he won a postdoctoral fellowship by the “Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie” and he spent almost one year at the “Universite Catholique de Louvain”, in Brussels, Belgium. The main research areas of Dr. Marie are marine drugs and the distribution and dispersion of pollutants in seawater. To date he has under his responsibility a Cell Culture facility and a Chemistry Laboratory. The chemistry laboratory is specialized in the production of marine-organisms-derived extracts/molecules which are subsequently being tested on cancer cell lines in the cell culture facility. He is also the coordinator of a project which aims at measuring the flux of Submarine Groundwater Discharge around the coast of Mauritius. Dr. Marie was promoted to the post of Principal Research Scientist in 2009. He was elected as Country Coordinator for the Western Indian Ocean Marine Science Association (WIOMSA) for Mauritius in 2010 and he is the Focal point for the Agulhas and Somali Currents Large Marine Ecosystems project (ASCLME) since April 2011. He has occupied the post of Officer-in-Charge of the Institute from December 2012 to 12th January 2014 and from August 2015 to June 2016. Dr. Marie has been appointed as Deputy-Director of the Mauritius Oceanography Institute since 1st July 2016.
PRINCIPAL RESEARCH SCIENTISTS
Mr. Javed MOSAHEB, BSc [Marine Biology], BSc [Biochemistry with Molecular Biology], MSc Coastal and Ocean Management
Mr. Javed Mosaheb has worked as adviser at the Albion Fisheries Research Centre for 8 years before joining the Mauritius Oceanography Institute in June 2005. His research interests are mainly in the field of Environmental Impact Assessment, Coastal Erosion and Marine Ecology. He was the focal point person for Mauritius for COI/EU Coral Reef Monitoring Regional Project. He is the main author of a book on "Biostatistics" and co-author of the "Field Guide to Coastal Fishes of Mauritius". He has also published several research papers. In January 2013, he was promoted to the post of Principal Research Scientist.
Dr. Manvendra SINGH, BSc [Physics & Geology], MSc [Geology], PhD [Geoscience]
Before joining the Mauritius Oceanography Institute, Mr. Singh has been working in the private sector for more than four years. He joined MOI in July 2008 as a Research Scientist. For his MSc, he undertook research studies on Experimental Petrology and Mathematical Geology on 'Ultrahigh Temperature Metamorphism'. His PhD work at Johann Wolfgang Goethe-Universität, Frankfurt, Germany was on 'Seismic Anisotropy, Crustal Thickness Variations and lntraplate Seismicity in the South-West lndian Ocean.' Currently, his main project is the 'Study of Local Seismicity around Rodrigues–CIR Region Using Array Techniques (collaborative project with Frankfurt University)' and analyzing seismological data collected from Mauritius, under RHUM-RUM (a French–German collaboration), project at the Goethe-University, Frankfurt, Germany. He was also involved in the Continental shelf Project of the Republic of Mauritius.
Mr. Prakash MUSSAI, BSc [Zoology], MSc [Marine Biology & Oceanography], MSc [Project Management]
After his studies, Mr. Mussai followed a one-year training at Albion Fisheries Research Center under the Skills Development Programme. He joined the Mauritius Oceanography Institute in May 2005 as Research Assistant and has worked on the project 'Database of Marine Organisms'. He has been recently appointed as Research Scientist.
Mr. Beenesh MOTAH, BSc (Hons.) [Physics with Environmental Science], MSc [Sustainable Environmental Management]
Mr. Motah was initially a trainee in the field of Satellite Oceanography at the Mauritius Oceanography Institute. He had been appointed as Research Scientist in the same field of work and is currently preparing for his Ph.D. thesis on “Tuna movement with respect to the ocean environment in the Indian Ocean – Tag & Recapture Approach” with the University of Cape Town and the Institute of Research and Development (IRD), France.
Mr. Vimal RAMCHANDUR, BSc (Hons.) [Physics], MSc [Computer Security and Forensics]
Mr. Ramchandur joined the MOI in 2006 for the project Bathymetry survey for the shallow lagoons of Mauritius. Appointed in 2011 as Research Scientist in Physical Oceanography, he has contributed in various projects of the MOI like the Continental Shelf project, Ballast Water Management project and Sand Budget around lagoons of Mauritius. He was the thematic expert for the AMESD project funded by the European Union and at present working on MESA project on fisheries management and contributing at Continental level.
Mr. Suraj BACHA GIAN BSc (Hons.) [Biology with Plant Science], MSc [Molecular and Cellular Biology]
Mr. Bacha Gian has worked as Laboratory Chemist/Microbiologist at the Universal Breweries Ltd before joining the Mauritius Oceanography Institute in 2007 as a trainee under the Government Empowerment Programme. He was later appointed as Associate Research Scientist in 2008 and Research Scientist in 2013. From 2007 to 2015, Mr. Bacha Gian has been working on the Land Based Coral Farming and Small Scale Reef Rehabilitation project. Being the senior-most staff from the Biological Oceanography Unit, he is currently responsible for the smooth running of the unit and its ongoing projects. The main research interests of Mr. Bacha Gian include Coral Reef Ecology and Marine Biotechnology.

Mr. Oocheetsing SADASING, BSc Hons [Biology with Environmental Science], MSc [Marine Biology & Oceanography]
Mr. Sadasing followed a one year training at Beach Authority under the Skills Development Programme and worked at the Mauritius Research Council before joining the Mauritius Oceanography Institute as Research Assistant. He has been appointed Associate Research Scientist in October 2008 and is presently working on the project for setting up a 'Pilot Farm for Pearl Culture'.
Dr. Hemanaden RUNGHEN, BSc [Mathematics], PhD [GIS and Mathematical Modelling]

Dr. Runghen joined the Mauritius Oceanography Institute in January 2008 as Research Assistant. He is interested in the study of ocean\coastal hydrodynamics, oil spill trajectory modelling using numerical models and environmental impact assessment. He also has experience in GIS and remote sensing. Dr. Runghen was appointed Associate Research Scientist in January 2009.
Dr. Dass BISSESSUR, Master of Advanced Studies (MAS) [Remote Sensing; Signal Processing], Ph.D. [Marine Geophysics]

Dr. Bissessur carried out his Ph.D. work at the Institut de Physique du Globe de Paris (Paris, France) on the ‘Structure, Age and Evolution of the Mascarene Basin, Western Indian Ocean”. His main research interests are the Geology of the Mascarene region: Mascarene Basin and Mascarene Plateau, the Structure and Evolution of Mauritius Island: Structure and geological history of Mauritius islands and the Ridge - Hotspot Interaction: Interaction between the Central Indian Ridge and the Reunion hotspot in the Rodrigues region. Research themes and projects he is involved in are: Deep Sea Research and Characterisation of the Seafloor, Sub-seafloor and its structures: Mapping and imagery of the seafloor and sub-seafloor to identify areas of potential resources and to understand the tectonics, formation and evolution of the region; RHUM-RUM project, a French-German project with Mauritius, Madagascar and Seychelles as collaborators: Establish the origin of the heat source that has been fuelling La Réunion hotspot and study the interaction between La Réunion hotspot and the Central Indian Ridge spreading centre; Extension of the legal Continental Shelf for Mauritius; Tsunami and Seismic Risk Assessment for Mauritius and Rodrigues; Morphological study of beaches and lagoons in Mauritius (Beach Erosion; Lagoon Dynamics). Dr. Bissessur research work brings him to take part in oceanographic expeditions in the Indian Ocean in collaboration with other oceanographic institutions.
Mr. Avin RAMANJOOLOO B.Sc. (Hons.) [Chemistry], MSc [Chemistry]
Mr. Ramanjooloo joined the Mauritius Oceanography Institute in July 2009 as Associate Research Scientist in Chemical Oceanography. He is currently working in the Marine Natural Products research group where he is investigating the biological activities of marine sponges with the aim of discovering new bioactive compounds that could be used for the treatment of diseases such as cancer, diabetes and Alzheimer. He followed an in-service training course in isotope hydrology at University D’Avignon, France and was involved in the Sub-marine Groundwater Discharge project.
Mr. Sarvanen Curpen, BSc (Hons.) [Biology with Environmental Science], MSc [Bioinformatics]
Mr. Curpen worked as a Research Assistant for the MOI from September 2002 to December 2003 before proceeding for further studies in the UK. Following his master’s degree, he worked as a science technician for the Imperial College of London, UK and as a Bioinformatician for the University of Wits, South Africa before taking employment as Associate Research Scientist at MOI in October 2009. Mr. Curpen is working in the Biological Oceanography unit with special focus and has developed the marine diversity and genetic database. His research interest is mainly in areas of Bioinformatics, Metagenomics , Molecular Biology and Biotechnology.

Dr. Rawat joined the Mauritius Oceanography Institute in February 2008 as Research Assistant in Satellite Oceanography and has been working mainly on the Continental Shelf Project. He holds a master’s degree in mathematical modelling and mechanical engineering from the University of Bordeaux I and a Ph.D. in Physical Oceanography from the University of Bretagne Occidentale, France.
Mr. Arnaud NICOLAS, M.Sc. [Applied Marine Science-Oceanography], PG Cert [Ocean Observations]
Mr. Nicolas holds a Master’s degree in Applied Marine Science specialising in Oceanography from the University of Cape Town (South Africa) and a Bachelor’s degree with Honours in Marine Science & Technology from the University of Mauritius. He joined the Mauritius Oceanography Institute in December 2011 as Associate Research Scientist. He attended a postgraduate course in Observational Oceanography at the NF-POGO Centre of Excellence at the Alfred Wegener Institute in Germany in 2015. He is currently working in the Marine Geosciences Unit where he is focusing on projects related to beach topography evolution, sediment characterization and infaunal assemblages. His main research interests are in climate dynamics and variability, paleo-environmental reconstructions and marine sedimentology.
Mr. Olivier C. A. PASNIN, B.Sc. (Hons.) [Agricultural Biotechnology], M.Sc. [Applied Marine Science – Zoology]

Mr. Pasnin joined the MOI in 2011. His research interests primarily focus on the conservation and sustainable use of marine species and the marine environment. He is currently investigating effective approaches of integrating genetic information into GIS for the appropriate location of MPAs. He has carried various scientific surveys in Mauritius, Rodrigues, St Brandon and Agalega.
Mr. Kamlesh RAMDHONY, B.Sc. [Medical Technology with Specialization in Clinical Laboratory Technology], M.Sc. [Biotechnology]
After his studies, Mr. Ramdhony joined the Mauritius Oceanography Institute in December 2011 as Associate Research Scientist. He is interested in Marine Biotechnology and is currently working on industrially important microalgae and Ballast Water Management project.
Ms. Prerna ROY, B.Sc. [Biotechnology ( Enterprise)], M.Sc. [Molecular Medicine & Cancer Research]

Miss Roy has been appointed as Associate Research Scientist, at the MOI, since 2011. She is currently working on the project ‘Bioprospecting of Mauritius Waters’ and is involved in identifying potential cancer drug leads from marine- derived substances and elucidating their mechanism of action. Her research interests encompass cancer research, marine biotechnology and cellular biology amongst others.
Mrs. Rajni SOOROOJEBALLY, B.Sc. [Biotechnology], M.Sc. [Aquaculture and Ocean Studies]
Mrs. Sooroojebally has worked as a laboratory technician in a private food microbiology laboratory for two and a half years before joining the Mauritius Oceanography Institute as Associate Research Scientist in December 2011. Her research fields of interests are commercially important micro algae and other marine natural resources.
Ms. Khishma MODOOSOODUN, B.Sc. (Hons.) [Marine Science and Technology], PG.Cert [Observational Oceanography]
Ms. Modoosoodun joined the Mauritius Oceanography Institute as Associate Research Scientist in January 2012. She had previously been working as Environmental Officer and Laboratory Technician in a Non-Governmental Organization. She followed an in-service training course in Observational Oceanography at the Alfred Wegener Institute Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research in Germany. Her research interest is interdisciplinary incorporating satellite remote sensing and its applications in biophysical processes.
Dr. Yashvin NEEHAUL, Master Chimie-Physique des Molecules et Interfaces, Ph.D. [Bio-physicalChemistry]
Dr. Neehaul joined the MOI in March 2013 following his tertiary education at the Université de Strasbourg, France. He holds a Master de Chimie spécialité Chimie-Physique des Molécules et Interfaces. Dr. Yashvin Neehaul was awarded a scholarship by Le Ministère de l’enseignement supérieur et de la Recherche, France back in 2009 for a Ph.D. in Chemistry. He is currently working on the Sub-marine Groundwater Discharge project and is actively developing the marine chemistry field at the MOI.
Ms. Preeti OOGARAH, B.Sc. [Chemistry], M.Sc. [Pharmaceutical Analysis and Quality Control]
Ms. Oogarah holds a Bachelor`s degree in Chemistry from University of Mauritius and a Master`s degree in Pharmaceutical Analysis and Quality Control from King`s College London. Ms. Oogarah has worked under the Service to Mauritius Programme at the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development and as Research Assistant at the University of Mauritius before joining the MOI in March 2013. She is currently working in the Bioprospecting Mauritius waters project.
Mr. Oomarsing GOOROOCHURN, B.Sc. (Hons.) [Biology with Environmental Sciences], M. Sc. [Coastal and Ocean Management]
Mr. Gooroochurn joined the public sector in September 2003 as Environment Enforcement Assistant at the Ministry of Environment. He then moved to the Ministry of Fisheries as Technical Officer in July 2006 where he served at the Competent Authority – Seafood and the Fisheries Monitoring Centre (Vessel Monitoring System). In October 2011, he was temporarily transferred to the MOI to work on the AMESD project following which he was subsequently appointed as Associate Research Scientist in June 2013. Mr. Gooroochurn is currently part of the Physical /Satellite Oceanography Unit of the MOI.
Dr. Danishta DUMUR-NEELAYYA, Ph.D. [Environmental Sciences]
Dr. Dumur holds a BSc in Biology with Environmental Sciences and a MPhil from the University of Mauritius. Following her doctoral studies at the University of Aberdeen (Scotland, UK) and 6 months’ employment at the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development under the Service-To-Mauritius Programme, Dr. Dumur joined the MOI as an Associate Research Scientist in 2014. She is currently part of the Biological Oceanography team, working on the DNA barcoding of marine organisms. Her primary research interest is in the area of microbial ecology, with focus on phytoplankton/microalgae, chemotaxonomy and biogeochemistry.
Ms. Rohinee Bhiwajee, BSc (Hons.) [Geology], MSc. [Geology]
Ms. Bhiwajee has joined the MOI in July 2017 as Associate Research Scientist. She completed her Bachelors and Masters degrees from the Banaras Hindu University (India). For her masters, her dissertation work was based on “The temporal changes of benthic foraminifera assemblages across the MIS 7/8 boundary at IODP site U1387 Northeast Atlantic Ocean”.
Mrs. Anishta Audit-Manna, B.Sc. [Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Genetics], M.Sc. [Biochemistry]
Mrs. Audit holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Genetics and a Master’s degree in Biochemistry from Bangalore University (India). Mrs. Audit has worked under the Service to Mauritius Programme at the Albion Fisheries Research Centre under the aegis of the Ministry of Ocean Economy, Marine Resources, Fisheries and Shipping ( October 2014 – March 2017) and as Management Support Officer at the Ministry of Public Infrastructure and Land Transport (April – July 2017) before joining the MOI in August 2017. She is currently part of the Biological Oceanography team, working on the DNA barcoding of marine organisms (sponges). Her research interest includes biochemistry, molecular biology, biotechnology, genetics, enzymology, and bioinformatics amongst others.
Dr Namrata Reetoo, Ph.D. (Life Sciences)
Dr Reetoo joined the MOI as an Associate Research Scientist in August 2017. Dr Reetoo completed her Bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology, Genetics and Biochemistry from Bangalore University (India) before moving to Scotland (UK) for her Masters in Biotechnology and eventually, Doctoral studies in the lab of Professor Carol MacKintosh at the University of Dundee. She was previously working at the AFRC under the Service to Mauritius Programme.
Mr Murughen SADIEN, BSc [Physics with Electronics], MSc [Physics/Astrophysics with specialty Spatial Technics and Instrumentation], MSc [Physics and Chemistry of Ocean and Atmosphere]
Mr Sadien joined the Mauritius Oceanography Institute in September 2017 as Associate Research Scientist. He is interested in the study of the dynamics of ocean, trajectory modelling using numerical models and use of remote sensing for oceanographic applications. He holds two master’s degree from the University of Paul Sabatier, Toulouse III, France.
For his masters, he has done his internships at L'Institut de Recherche en Astrophysique et Planétologie (IRAP, Toulouse), L'Observatoire Océanologique de Banyuls-sur-Mer (OBB, Languedoc-Roussillon) and Laboratoire d’Etudes en Géophysique et Océanographie Spatiales (LEGOS, Toulouse). His master thesis was based on the study of the Spatial and Temporal Variability in the atmosphere of MARS. He has worked on the detection of interstellar molecules using IRAM Telescope and modelling of Line Spectra using MCMC and on the study of Remote Sensing Technology for meteorological application.
Ms Mugun, BSc (Hons) Biology (Minor: Marine and Coastal Environmental Science), Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE)
Ms Mugun joined the MOI in December 2017 as Associate Research Scientist. She holds a degree in BSc (Hons) Biology (Minor: Marine and Coastal Environmental Science). Her dissertation was based on ‘Genetic Characterisation of symbiotic zooxanthellae in the sea anemone; Anemonia manjano.’ She has worked as supply Biology teacher before and she has recently completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Education. Her research interest includes Genetics, Molecular Biology, Marine Science among others.

Ms. Ramharai has joined MOI as an Associate Research Scientist in December 2017.She has completed her Bachelors and Masters degrees from the University of Technology, Mauritius.She has worked as supply teacher previously.
Eric MARTIAL, SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR

Mr. Martial has been working in the private sector before joining the Mauritius Oceanography Institute in February 2005 as Project Officer in IT (now re-styled as Systems Administrator). He has several years of experience in the field of Information Technology. Mr. Martial has set up the server and local area network of the Institute. He designed and developed the interface (Web and CD) for the ‘Database of Marine Organisms of Mauritius’. He has also devised the software for the electronic attendance system and a platform for document sharing on the LAN. He has been involved in the African Monitoring of the Environment for Sustainable Development (AMESD) project since 2008 as systems administrator, developer and trainer. He led the MOI-AMESD team from March 2011 to June 2013. He is currently leading the team working on the Monitoring for Environment and Security in Africa (MESA) project for the Indian Ocean Commission Region.

Mr. Askoolum holds an MSc (Software Engineering Projects & Management) From the University of Mauritius and a Bachelor in Engineering in Computer Science for Birla Institute of Technology (India). Shane Sunassee was working as a Scuba Diving Instructor before joining MOI in March 2013 as a Technical/Senior Assistant. He is a TDI Advance Trimix Diver (100m) - Top Most Open Circuit level and Advance Wreck Diver, he has joined in several diving expeditions for deep wreck exploration, Deep-sea Pinnacles, sinkholes/caves (land base) around Thailand ranging from 60 to 130m, his deepest dive. He participated as support diver for deep diving expedition. He is certified under 2 main diving agencies- PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) and TDI (Technical Diving International). He is a Closed Circuit Rebreather Tec Diver- TDI Decompression Procedures Level (CCR MOD 2- Ap Inspiration Evo CCR user). Shane possessed Instructor Rating in different diving specialities such as Deep, Enriched Air (nitrox), Night, Digital Underwater Photography, Peak performance buoyancy, Sidemount (recreational and Technical), Self-reliant (solo) diver, Wreck diver, Emergency First Responder Instructor with AED-Automated External Defibrillators, Care for Children with AED and Oxygen Administrator. For dive operations, he is a Gas Blender Instructor for Enriched Air (nitrox), Advance Gas Blender (mixed gas), compressor operator, Equipment Specialist and O2 Service Technician.

Miss Geetika Kalleechurn [BSc Biotechnology and Molecular Biology]
Miss Kalleechurn did her undergraduate studies at Murdoch University, Australia. She was employed as a YEP trainee at the Ministry of Agro Industry and Food security for four months. She joined the MOI under the Service to Mauritius Scheme since December 2016. She is currently part of the Chemical Oceanography team. Her research interests include the influence of physico-chemical parameters on marine ecosystems and the environmental applications of marine biotechnology.
Mrs Harree Somah Luxmibye [BSc (Hons.) Biology] and [MSc Molecular and Cellular Biology]
Mrs Harree Somah Luxmibye holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology and a Master’s Degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology from the University of Mauritius. From September to October 2016 she has worked as Supply Educator (Biology) at Gaetan Raynal State College. She has joined the MOI in December 2016 through the Service to Mauritius Programme under the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development. She is currently part of the Biological Oceanography team working on the Assessment of living resources in the EEZ of Mauritius. She has a keen interest in using various Molecular biology techniques in marine sciences.
Mr. Jay Rovisham Singh DOORGA, [BSc (Hons.) Physics with Renewable Energies]
Mr. Doorga joined the Mauritius Oceanography Institute in December 2016 under Service to Mauritius programme following his undergraduate studies at the University of Mauritius. He studied wave and tidal energy systems, including Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) as major components in his renewable energy studies. He is currently working on the assessment of wave potential at selected hydrologic and coastal environments around Mauritius. In this study, he aims at identifying the most suitable regions for harnessing energy from waves in view of tapping electricity from surface wave energy for domestic use. Mr Doorga would like to specialize in the field of Renewable Energy Systems with application in Atmospheric and Marine Sciences.
