The Mauritius Oceanography Institute (MOI) is a parastatal body under the aegis of the Ministry of Agro-Industry, Food Security, Blue Economy and Fisheries. The main objects of the Institute are, inter alia, to foster interest in research and development in relation to oceanography and to advise Government on the formulation and implementation of policies and programmes in respect of oceanography and related aspects.
Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates who wish to be considered for the post of:
A. ASSOCIATE RESEARCH SCIENTIST (Physical Oceanography/Marine Geosciences)
B. ASSOCIATE RESEARCH SCIENTIST (Chemical Oceanography)
Age Limit for Entry
Candidates should not have reached their 45th birthday by the closing date of this advertisement.
Qualifications
- Post A: BSc. Physical Oceanography, Physics, Mathematics, Marine Science or Geophysics or any related field
Note: Knowledge of coding (MATLAB, Python or any other language) will be an advantage.
- Post B: BSc. Chemical Oceanography, Chemistry, Marine Chemistry, Marine Science or any related field
Skills
Candidates should:-
- Possess good interpersonal and communication skills;
- Have good analytical skills;
- Be familiar with modern trends and techniques in the scientific field; and
- Be computer literate.
Requirements
- Candidates should be prepared to undertake fieldwork activities, scientific cruises, overseas mission and follow scuba-diving courses in case they are not already qualified divers.
- Physical fitness and enthusiasm for outdoor work are essential as there is a significant component of work at sea.
- Candidates will be expected to work beyond normal office hours.
Salary
The permanent and pensionable post of Associate Research Scientist carries salary in the scale of Rs 28225 x 825 - 35650 x 900 - 37450 x 950 - 42200 x 1300 - 46100 x 1575 - 49250 x 1650 - 54200 x 1700 – 62700 (MOI 17)
Duties
- To support and assist Research Scientists and Principal Research Scientists in all their activities;
- To assist Research Scientists and Principal Research Scientists in project write up;
- To collaborate with other staff in order to achieve strategic objectives of the Institute;
- To liaise with other stakeholders in the field of Oceanography under the supervision of the Research Scientists and Principal Research Scientists;
- To handle scientific task in connection with laboratory and field activities;
- To use ICT in the performance of their duties; and
- To perform other duties directly related to the main duties listed above or related to the delivery of the output expected from incumbents in the roles and responsibilities ascribed to them.

- Completed application forms should reach the Director, Mauritius Oceanography Institute, Avenue des Anchois, Morcellement de Chazal, 91005, Albion, Republic of Mauritius not later than Friday 13 June 2025 by 16:00 hours through registered post and proof of postmark will be noted.
- The envelope should be clearly marked “Post A or B” as appropriate in the top left hand corner.
- Candidates should attach copies of documentary evidence of qualifications claimed together with the MOI Application Form, failing which consideration would not be given to the application.
- Applications not made on the MOI Application Form will not be accepted. Incomplete, inadequate or inaccurate filling of the Application Form may entail elimination of the candidate.
- Applications received after the closing date and time will not be considered.
