Coral Farming Training Programme

In December 2017, an awareness raising/sensitisation programme undertaken in the northern, southern, eastern and western regions of the island led to the identification of four sites for implementation of the “Community-based Coral Farming Project”. Following inception workshops at La Gaulette and Quatre Soeurs on 29-Jan-18 and 30-Jan-18 respectively, half-day seminars are currently being organised at the two sites, for the registration of participants under the “Coral Farming training Programme”.

On 02nd and 06th March 2018, registration workshops were undertaken at Quatre Soeurs and La Gaulette respectively for enlistment of participants under the “Coral Farming Training Programme” (CFTP).  Till date, a total of 27 and 24 participants have registered under this programme at Quatre Soeurs and La Gaulette respectively. Under the CFTP, participants comprising members of coastal communities, will be trained in coral culture, transplantation and gardening techniques.  At both sites, the training programme will expand over two years, starting in March 2018 and ending in March 2020.

Following the registration of participants under the “Coral Farming Training Programme” (CFTP), classroom lectures have started at both Quatre Soeurs (07-Mar-18) and La Gaulette (13-Mar-18).  A total of 65 participants have registered at both sites (34 at Quatre Soeurs and 31 at La Gaulette). At La Gaulette, trainees are presently being trained in the manufacture of nursery units.  Similar training activities will be undertaken next week at Quatre Soeurs.
