GMES KICK OFF
The Mauritius Oceanography Institute (MOI) Consortium is organizing the Kick Off meeting of the Pan-African “Global Monitoring for Environment and Security (GMES) & Africa” project for the Eastern African region at the Hotel Sofitel Mauritius L'Impérial Resort & Spa, Wolmar, Flic en Flac, Mauritius on Thursday 15th August 2019. The Minister of Ocean Economy, Marine Resources, Fisheries and Shipping, the Honourable Mr. Premdut Koonjoo, will officially launch the Project. Representatives from the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Mauritius, the African Union Commission, the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC), the MOI Board, MOI Consortium Partners, Associates, respective beneficiaries of the thematic actions as well as diplomatic corps will attend the opening ceremony.
During the workshop that will follow, the project will be introduced to all key stakeholders. Themes on the agenda includ an overview of the GMES & Africa Programme, the MOI Consortium, the Marine and Coastal Services and the expected deliverables of the project. The workshop is an excellent opportunity to meet with the different regional partners.
The meeting will precede the Regional Project Steering Committee Meeting the scheduled for the following day whereby the roles and responsibilities of the designated National Focal Points of each participating country will be discussed along with the reporting mechanism and Monitoring & Evaluation Strategy.
Some 50 participants coming from Mauritius, Comoros, Madagascar, Seychelles, Reunion Island, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Somalia are expected to attend this workshop.
