Presentation on Satellite Remote Sensing Operational Service
In view of the Maritime Search and Rescue Standing Committee, a meeting between representatives from the Ministry of Blue Economy, Marine Resources, Fisheries and Shipping, along with, Mauritius Oceanography Institute (MOI), Albion Fisheries Research Centre (AFRC) and the Shipping Division was held on Wednesday 7th October 2020 in the conference room of the Ministry.
During the meeting, a presentation was made by Mr. V. Ramchandur (Research Scientist at the MOI) on the “Satellite Remote Sensing 3 days’ forecasting operational service”. The aim of the presentation was to showcase the maps that are generated 3 times weekly, namely sea surface current, sea surface temperature and sea surface salinity which are available on MOI’s website. The use of sea surface current forecast on the Potential Fishing Zone map derived from sea surface temperature (GMES project) was also discussed.
