GMES & Africa Online Training Course on the use of eStation for generating PFZ maps and Bulletin charts

The Mauritius Oceanography Institute (MOI) is conducting an online training course on the use of eStation for generating Potential Fishing Zone (PFZ) maps and bulletin charts from the 28th to 30th September 2020.

Learning objectives

For this highly practical course, the following objectives have been defined:

  • to provide participants with a basic knowledge of the eStation
  • to teach participants how to locate files on the Processing PC
  • to show participants how to retrieve data from the eStation and work on the data with QGIS
  • to teach participants how to create an output map using the GUI on the Visualisation PC
  • to show participants how to select their preferred region of interest for calculating time series on Chlorophyll-a and Sea Surface Temperature data

This training course covers topics related to the “Monitoring and Forecasting of Physical and Biological Oceanography variables” and “Fishing Zones Monitoring and Protection” applications of the Marine and Coastal Management Service. It targets stakeholders who are involved in the production of Potential Fishing Zone maps and Monthly Oceanographic Bulletins.

The resource person for this training is Mr. V. Ramchandur, Research Scientist at the MOI and Lead Thematician for the GMES-Africa Marine and Coastal Management in the East Africa Region.
