The Ministry of Ocean Economy, Marine Resources, Fisheries, Shipping and Outer Islands in collaboration with the Mauritius Oceanography Institute (MOI) celebrated the World Oceans Day on the 8th June 2016. To mark this event, a series of presentations and exhibitions were held at the new MOI Complex in Albion.
The target audience was mostly secondary school and tertiary students from the different regions of the island. The Hon. Mr. Premdut Koonjoo, Minister of Ocean Economy, Marine Resources, Fisheries, Shipping and Outer Islands officially launched the series of activities during the opening ceremony held in the presence of various dignitaries including the United Nations Development Programme Resident Representative, representatives of the diplomatic missions from Australia, China, France, India, UK and the USA, MOI board members and representatives of different ministries.
The MOI took the opportunity of that event to raise awareness on the MESA-IOC theme through presentations and an exhibition booth to display the Marine and Coastal Management brochures, leaflets, products and a short video on the activities carried out under the Indian Ocean Commission thematic action.
